Membership Classifications

An Active Member is a veterinarian who holds a degree from a veterinary medical college/school; and is permitted to participate in veterinary medical activities under the laws of the State of Ohio. Active members shall have the right to attend all meetings of the Association, receive all of its publications, and the right to vote and hold office in the Association."

New Graduates of a college of veterinary medicine that apply for active membership within ninety (90) days following graduation are entitled to active membership status without payment of dues for the remainder of the calendar year in which the application is submitted.

Sustaining Members shall: (1) Have been an Active Member of the Association; and, (2) No longer be actively engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine, which is defined as a veterinarian who no longer receives financial consideration for participating in veterinary medical activities. Sustaining members shall have the right to attend all meetings of the Association, receive all of its publications, the right to vote and to hold office in the Association. Sustaining members may also be extended discounted fees to attend Association Programs as determined by the Board of Trustees. Annual Dues for Sustaining membership are $50.00.

Life Members shall: (1) Have been an Active Member in good standing for thirty (30) or more years, which may or may not be consecutive; and, (2) Either has retired from the practice of veterinary medicine or reached seventy (70) years of age. Life membership may also be granted upon a two-thirds affirmative vote of the Board of Trustees to an Active Member who has become permanently disabled, preventing their active practice of veterinary medicine. No dues or assessments shall be required of Life Members. In addition they may be extended discounted fees to attend Association Programs as determined by the Board of Trustees. Life members shall have the right to attend all of the meetings of the Association, receive all of its publications, and the right to vote and hold office.

An Associate Member is a veterinarian who holds a degree from a veterinary medical college/school; and resides outside Ohio. Associate Members shall have the right to attend all meetings of the Association and receive all its publications, but shall not have the right to vote or hold office in the Association."

Midwest Veterinary Conference

A four day educational experience presented annually by the OVMA. This gathering of your peers offers state-of-the-art scientific programs and information on the latest trends and technology in veterinary medicine. Opportunities for continuing education abound during the Conference through several areas of specialization given by leading lecturers on all aspects of veterinary medicine.

One Day Programs

One day programs provide training in practice management & staff support services. The OVMA continues to explore alternate avenues for CE opportunities so as to stay ahead of the game in the ultimate veterinary learning experience.

In the Legislative & Regulatory Affairs Arenas

Achieve together what you can not alone. The OVMA is an advocate for the entire profession and keeps you informed about legislative changes that affect you. This includes regularly monitoring state regulatory agencies that impact the veterinary profession.

In the Public Relations Arena for the Profession

Internally the OVMA works to help veterinary professionals foster an atmosphere of community in veterinary medicine.

Externally the OVMA works to help in educating and instructing the public about the knowledge, expertise, and value of services provided by the veterinary medicine profession.
