Zimmerman assumes position as president of state veterinary association

COLUMBUS, OHIO — MARCH 1, 2012 — Fremont veterinarian Ryan Zimmerman was recently elected to the position of President of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA). At an awards ceremony at OVMA’s annual Midwest Veterinary Conference in late February, Dr. Zimmerman formally accepted the position from outgoing President Dr. Linda Lord of Columbus.

“It is quite an honor to serve as President for one of the greatest state associations in the country,” Dr. Zimmerman said. “My goal for the next year is to continue to build on the trust and respect the community has invested in us as veterinarians. The future is exciting and we will be diligent to make sure our profession remains respectable and enjoyable.”

As President of the OVMA, Dr. Zimmerman will lead the Association’s 27-member Board of Directors, which is charged with establishing policies, allocating OVMA resources and charting future strategies for the organization. Dr. Zimmerman will fill the position until March 2013.

Owner of Westview Veterinary Hospital in Fremont, Dr. Zimmerman graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been practicing as a mixed animal practitioner for 12 years. Dr. Zimmerman is an active participant in the veterinary community, both locally and nationally. He has held several positions on the OVMA Board of Directors, serves in multiple OVMA committees, and is an enthusiastic participant in the AAEP’s Infectious Disease Committee, the Ohio Equine Coalition, and the AVMA.

Dr. Zimmerman lives in Fremont with his wife Sarah and their three children, Lauren, Faith and Aiden.

The Ohio Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) is a non-profit organization providing services to its members in the areas of continuing education, advocacy on public policy matters, and access to variety of professional resources. The OVMA represents more than 2,400 veterinarians practicing in various fields and specialties. The OVMA’s principal purpose and mission is to foster life-long learning, stewardship, compassion and community in veterinary medicine.
