OVMA Leadership Institute accepting applications for 2011-12 class

If you graduated from veterinary school in the past 15 years and are interested in sharpening your leadership skills, the OVMA Leadership Institute invites you to apply for this year’s class.

This program seeks to redesign leadership in veterinary medicine while creating tomorrow’s leaders for the benefit of the individual and the profession. The curriculum includes pertinent topics such as team building, leadership coaching, effective public speaking, human resources, practice management skills, media communication and more. Leadership Institute graduates leave the program empowered with a stronger sense of direction and leadership allowing them to step up to the challenges that face the veterinary community.

Past participants in the LI program report that they find it to be a rewarding, valuable experience and agree they would recommend it to a friend or colleague. More than 88 percent of graduates reported that they learned skills applicable to both their professional and personal lives.

Participants meet seven times over an eight-month period for one-day interactive sessions. Participants also have the unique opportunity to serve as presiders during the Midwest Veterinary Conference. Any OVMA member whom has been out of veterinary school for 15 years or less is welcome to apply. There is no fee associated with participating, and the OVMA will provide food and lodging when necessary for attendees.

To apply, log on to the OVMA Web site or download a PDF application. Please direct any questions to Mia Cunningham by e-mail or phone at 800-662-6862. The deadline to apply is Aug. 5, 2011.
