USDA announces Oct. 1 as deadline to participate in accreditation program

WASHINGTON, Aug. 23, 2011 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) today announced to the public that veterinarians who are currently accredited in the National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP) may continue to perform accredited duties and may elect to continue to participate in the NVAP until Oct. 1, 2011.

USDA situation report, guidance document & new AAEP resources for horse owners now available

Horses exposed to the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) based on attending an event held in Utah will now be monitored through a national case reporting system. In addition, a guidance document was sent to State Animal Health Officials and Area Veterinarians in Charge (AVIC) in each state on Tuesday, May 17, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Service (VS).

USDA extends deadline for National Veterinary Accreditation Program

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28, 2010 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has extended the deadline for accredited veterinarians to elect to participate in the National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP) until further notice. Currently, accredited veterinarians must elect to continue their participation in the NVAP in order to maintain accredited status.

USDA seeks practitioner help in testing stallions for CEM

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Veterinary Services program (VS) is seeking practitioner participation in a plan to test 3,000 stallions for Taylorella equigenitalis, the bacterium that causes contagious equine metritis (CEM).
