COLUMBUS, OHIO — MARCH 15, 2011 — Columbus veterinarian Linda Lord was recently elected to the position of President of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA). At an awards ceremony at OVMA’s annual Midwest Veterinary Conference in late February, Dr. Lord formally accepted the position from the previous president, Dr. Jason Johnston of Troy.

This year’s event, set to take place on Tuesday, Nov. 30, will focus on two emerging issues for the livestock industries, which coincidentally have been the focus of debate in Ohio – handling of disabled or non-ambulatory animals, and euthanasia.
The featured presenter of the Symposium will be Dr. Temple Grandin, professor of animal science at Colorado State University and well-known animal handling expert.
Catherine Scipioni has been selected as the recipient of the 2010-11 OVMA Leadership in Veterinary Medicine Scholarship.
The scholarship was established to honor Immediate Past President Dr. John Weale and his contributions to the organization. It recognizes one OVMA Student Member who exhibits strong leadership skills and a passion for veterinary medicine.
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for practicing veterinarians that are willing to volunteer their time to share their experiences with high school and middle school students through various career day events held throughout the year. The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) announced May 5 the inaugural class of Pfizer Veterinary Student Scholars.
Pfizer Animal Health will provide up to $2 million in scholarships, administered in partnership with the Foundation, over the first three years of the program.
