During the annual OVMA Member Business Meeting, outgoing President Dr. Greg Hass passed the gavel of the OVMA President to Dr. Ed Biggie, who officially assumed his post on March 1. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony, traditionally held during the annual Midwest Veterinary Conference, took place via video conference on Feb. 19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/HassGreg-WEB.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/HassGreg-WEB.jpg?resize=125%2C125&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6615\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/HassGreg-WEB.jpg?w=300&ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/HassGreg-WEB.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 125px) 100vw, 125px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Greg Hass, DVM<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\u201cI\u2019ve been impressed and very proud of our members,\u201d Dr. Hass said in reflecting on the unprecedented last year. \u201cYour sacrifices, empathy, and professionalism have not gone unnoticed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nAfter recapping the challenges the OVMA and its members faced during the tumultuous year, Dr. Hass highlighted the Association\u2019s accomplishments\u2014including the formation of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiovma.org\/veterinarians\/resources\/diversity.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diversity, equity, and inclusion<\/a> task force; the creation of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiovma.org\/downloads\/veterinarians\/abuse\/AARR-Handbook-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Animal Abuse Recognition & Reporting Handbook<\/a>; the passage of several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/?p=6575\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">key pieces of legislation<\/a>; and the OVMA\u2019s ability to shift the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mvcinfo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Midwest Veterinary Conference<\/a> from an in-person conference to a virtual event.<\/p>\n\n\n\nDr. Biggie thanked Dr. Hass for his service and formally accepted the gavel of the President from his home in Millersport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/BiggieEd-WEB.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/BiggieEd-WEB.jpg?resize=125%2C125&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6616\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/BiggieEd-WEB.jpg?w=300&ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohiovma.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/BiggieEd-WEB.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 125px) 100vw, 125px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Ed Biggie, DVM<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\u201cWith each new adversity, Dr. Hass has risen to the challenge. I hope to build on his experience as we continue to navigate the waters of this global pandemic,\u201d he said. \u201cThank you for this opportunity to give back to a profession that has meant so much to me in my 30 years as a mixed-animal practitioner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nA 1990 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Biggie is a partner and head surgeon at Feeder Creek Veterinary Services in Millersport, where his main focus is small animal orthopedics and general surgery. A longtime member of the OVMA Board of Directors, he has served as District 9 Representative, Secretary, Vice President, and President-Elect. In his free time, Dr. Biggie enjoys spending time in the great outdoors and woodworking\u2014something he acknowledges helps him decompress after a long day at the clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cIn our desire to help and take care of our patients and clients, we sometimes lose sight of our own wellbeing,\u201d he continued, adding that he chose to record his acceptance speech from his own \u201crefuge\u201d: His wood shop. \u201cWe need to remember, more than ever, the importance of taking some time for ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nIf in doubt, he said, turn to OVMA for assistance and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cThe OVMA has <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiovma.org\/veterinarians\/resources\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">many resources<\/a>,\u201d Dr. Biggie said in closing. \u201cWe\u2019re here for you.
