He completed his veterinary school training at Tuskegee University and then went on to complete a residency program in laboratory animal medicine at Louisiana State University, where he also completed a Master of Science degree in biomedical and veterinary medical sciences through the Department of Pathobiological Sciences. He is also a certified aquatic veterinarian (WAVMA). Dr. Malbrue is currently the associate director of the Animal Resources Core for The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children\u2019s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he oversees the clinical medicine and training program. He additionally is an assistant adjunct professor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Preventative Medicine, and he is a member on the college\u2019s diversity and admissions committees.
