Pig ears recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination

Pet Supplies Plus is recalling bulk pig ear products supplied to more than 400 retail stores in 33 states due to the potential of Salmonella contamination. To date, 45 individuals in 13 states have been diagnosed with Salmonella-related illness. However, none of these cases are confirmed to be a result of purchasing pig ears from Pet Supplies Plus.

Bulk pig ear dog treats were stocked in open bins. Prepackaged branded pig ears are not included in this recall. Because the bulk pig ear dog treats were sold in open bins, the company provided the following image of the related in-store sign:

The affected products were distributed to Pet Supplies Plus stores in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Consumers who have purchased bulk pig ears should discontinue use of the product and discard it. Questions can be directed to Pet Supplies Plus Neighbor Service team at 734-793-6564 (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST).
